Friday
we had 4 debate sessions yst. i didn't make any point of information or amendment though. the resolution that i co-submitted on the topic of palestinian refugees was debated today, and it was passed! haha,we were so happy, but i feel i didn't do much as a co-submitter. lithuania was asking me to make a speech in support of the reso and i agreed, but i told her that i'm unable to write the speech as i didn't get to see the reso beforehand so i need her help. so she told germany to write a speech for me,but in the end, there wasn't enough time for us to give our speech due to time constraints. i think germany didn't hv time to whip up another speech for me either, cause he had to write speeches for nepal, singapore and guyana too. haha, but our resolution still passed! [:
the debate session ended at 5.00pm. there is dance for all thimun participants today,so we met each other at the clock tower and then took a cab down to city hall. went to change and we took the shuttle bus to night safari. we had buffet dinner and the food was yummy! after that,we went to the function room to dance. it was like a dance floor, with disco lights and the music was very loud. actually,it's just like clubbing, except that this is only for all thimun participants and that no alcholic drinks were allowed. at first,we were feeling so out of place inside, cause everyone were dancing and we weren't. so sherilyn started to dance and we all followed her. all of us except hoe kin danced like crazy, haha. we were all super high and it was very fun. luckily alcholic drinks are not allowed,or not things would have gotten out of control.
Today
today's the last day of thimun, and we had the general assembly plenary session for the entire day. there were 6 resolutions to be debated on,1 frm each committee. the debate time for each resolution is only about 45 mins, which is really short as compared to the normal one which is about 90 mins to 120 mins. yupp, many funny and interesting things happened, but i shall not elaborate it here, cause there are too many to say. finally we had the closing ceremony at 4.15pm,and there was a performance by hwa chong string ensemble, followed by all the speeches. i think the best part was when the president of the general assembly play the piano! he sure can play super well, and everyone were cheering and clapping (:
THIMUN is finally over. learnt alot of things and i think it made me more interested in issues pertaining to the rest of the world. i'm simply amazed to see people of my age so concerned about world issues, knowing so much about it and trying their very best to fight for the rights of the country that they are representing. most importantly,i got to know where i stand and it kinda motivates me to further buck up on my english. and as looyee had mentioned in her blog,we have gotten the "slang disease" after listening to the rich-in-english-accent for 4 days :D
top 5 things i'll miss for sure: 1) the points of order, points of information, points of personal priviledge, points of personal enquiry etc. 2) refering to myself as "the delegate of ethiopia", 3) the american accents around, 4) wearing formal clothes everyday with court shoes, 5) the friends i've made there
credit goes to looyee and crystal for the pics =)
